Book Club with PCV Ted

On August 5th 2015 the American Corner Bitola, as part of the EducationUSA Competitive College Club Bitola, organized Book Club meeting led by Mr. Ted Shibata, local Peace Corps Volunteer. The book selected for this session was "Diary of a Yong Girl" by Anne Frank. During the event the participants talked more about the book plot, but also wrote an essay about the book. Ted gave numerous guidelines and notes how the participants can improve their essays and how they can use the SAT vocabulary to improve their writing style. The book club event is aimed to help the members of Competitive College Club to learn more about the American literature and also practice their reading and writing skills which is an extraordinary assistance for the process of their application to U.S. universities.

IEW SCHOOL VISITS As a part of International Education Week 2018, EducationUSA adviser Biljana K. Tasetovikj visited several Macedonian schools and colleges and spoke with more than 130 students about the opportunities of the U.S. higher education system. On November 13, she visited schools in south-west Macedonia, high schools "Niko Nestor" - Struga, "Yahya Kemal College" - Struga, Gymnasium "St. Kliment Ohridski" - Ohrid and the University of Information Science and Technology "St. Paul the Apostle" - Ohrid. The students had the chance to learn about opportunities to obtain undergraduate and graduate education in the USA as well as the benefits of becoming a member of the American Corner in Struga. The Basics of U.S. Higher Education w/ Ms. Trishita Maula

On April 7th 2016 the American Corner Bitola organized a Coffee with a Diplomat event on the topic “The Basics of U.S. Higher Education" with Ms. Trishita Maula, Second Secretary in the United States Foreign Service. Ms. Maula has previously served in U.S. Embassy Dhaka and the Permanent Mission of the United States to the United Nations in Geneva. She holds a degree in Economics and Mathematics from Barnard College, Columbia University and is a native of New York City. Higher Education in the U.S. is based on a core liberal arts and sciences curriculum that features a broad of humanities courses - art, science, music, history, philosophy, literature- along with in-depth focus on one particular discipline.
