Coffee with Diplomat - “Higher Education in the U.S."

On April 28th 2016 the American Corner Bitola organized Coffee with a Diplomat event on the topic “Higher Education in the U.S - A Brief Overview of U.S. Student Visas" with Ms. Carolina Ardon Ayala, Professional Adjudication Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Macedonia. Ms. Ayala currently works as the Professional Adjudication Specialist in the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Skopje. Previously, she worked in higher education at George Mason University for over ten years in various roles, including: Program Manager & Outreach Coordinator, Academic Adviser & Career Counselor, and taught undergraduate level courses. Book Club – “The wizard of Oz”

On April 28th 2016 the American Corner Bitola, as part of the 2016 EducationUSA Competitive College Club Bitola, organized Book Club meeting led by Mr. Charles McKinney, local Peace Corps Volunteer.  The book selected for this session was "The wizard of Oz”" by L. Frank Baum. During the event the participants talked more about the book plot, but also wrote an essay about the book. Charles gave numerous guidelines and notes how the participants can improve their essays and their writing style. The book club event is aimed to help the members of the EducationUSA Competitive College Club to learn more about the American literature and also practice their reading and writing skills which is an extraordinary assistance for the process of their application to U.S. universities.

EducationUSA Presentations, April 27

Today, EdUSA Adviser Biljana Kuzmanovska Tasetovikj held two presentations for around 60 second and third year students who are interested in going to college in the USA. The first one was intended for students at the Yahya Kemal College, and the other one for all the interested students from Ohrid and Struga. All of them had the chance to learn about the benefits of joining the Competitive College Club, heard success stories of previous members of the Club, got tips by the Adviser about how to approach the application process and asked her specific questions related with their studies of interest.

The Basics of U.S. Higher Education w/ Ms. Trishita Maula

On April 7th 2016 the American Corner Bitola organized a Coffee with a Diplomat event on the topic “The Basics of U.S. Higher Education" with Ms. Trishita Maula, Second Secretary in the United States Foreign Service. Ms. Maula has previously served in U.S. Embassy Dhaka and the Permanent Mission of the United States to the United Nations in Geneva. She holds a degree in Economics and Mathematics from Barnard College, Columbia University and is a native of New York City. Higher Education in the U.S. is based on a core liberal arts and sciences curriculum that features a broad of humanities courses - art, science, music, history, philosophy, literature- along with in-depth focus on one particular discipline. Ms. Maula talked with the attending students on degree types, life on campus, types of schools, selection of majors, volunteering, application process and much more giving through her personal experience.  The students at the end had a lot of interesting questions

On April 1st the students at the high school "Krste Petkov Misirkov" in Demir Hisar became part of the EducationUSA Caravan organized by the American Corner Bitola/EducationUSA Center Bitola. The AC Bitola Coordinator and EducationUSA Adviser Biljana Kuzmanovska Tasetovikj introduced the students to the EducationUSA opportunities, more specifically with the edUSA Competitive College Club (CCC) in Bitola and the available resources at the American Corner Bitola. EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 400 international student advising centers in more than 170 countries. The network promotes U.S. higher education to students around the world by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited post secondary institutions in the United States. On March 14th 2016 the American Corner Bitola organized EducationUSA Caravan in the local Economic high school "Jane Sandanski" in Bitola. The purpose of the caravan is to get the students familiar to the EducationUSA opportunities more specific the Competitive College Club in Bitola and the available resources of the American Corner Bitola. EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 400 international student advising centers in more than 170 countries.  The network promotes U.S. higher education to students around the world by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States.
